1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms and Conditions (the “Terms”) govern your use of the website located at rummelrmt.com (the “Website”) and any services offered through the Website by Lisa Rummel, Registered Massage Therapist (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Website, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Website.
2. Definitions
- “Services” means the registered massage therapy treatments offered by Lisa Rummel, RMT, including deep tissue massage, aromatherapy, BIOFLEX low-level laser therapy, metaphysical therapy, and any related services.
- “Client” means any individual who books or receives the Services or who uses the Website.
- “Jane App” means the third-party practice-management and online-booking platform operated by Jane Software Inc., used by Lisa Rummel, RMT to schedule appointments and maintain treatment records.
3. Nature of the Website
The Website is provided for informational and booking-inquiry purposes only. The content of the Website is intended to describe our practice and the services we offer. Nothing on the Website constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and the Website is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.
4. Professional Standing
Lisa Rummel is a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) and member in good standing of the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC), Member #8126. Treatments are provided in accordance with the NHPC Code of Ethics, NHPC Standards of Practice, and applicable Alberta law.
Massage therapy is not currently a regulated health profession in Alberta. Lisa Rummel voluntarily upholds professional standards equivalent to those of regulated provinces and is bound by the NHPC’s confidentiality, scope-of-practice, and continuing-education requirements.
5. Booking and Appointments
5.1 Booking Method
Appointments may be booked through Jane App, by telephone, or by submitting an inquiry through our Website. All bookings are confirmed at our discretion and are subject to availability.
5.2 Informed Consent
Prior to your first treatment, you will be asked to complete a confidential intake form and to provide informed consent in writing. You may withdraw consent for any aspect of treatment at any time, before or during a session, without explanation.
5.3 Late Arrivals
If you arrive late for a scheduled appointment, your session will end at the originally scheduled time, and the full fee will apply. Please allow a few minutes before your appointment to arrive, settle in, and complete any necessary paperwork.
5.4 Cancellations and No-Shows
We require at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with less than the required notice, or missed appointments (“no-shows”), are subject to a charge equal to 100% of the session fee.
Exceptions for genuine emergencies and unforeseen circumstances will be considered at our reasonable discretion.
6. Fees and Payment
6.1 Rates
Current rates for our Services are published on the Website and are subject to change without notice. The rate applicable to your appointment is the rate in effect at the time the appointment is booked.
6.2 Payment Methods
Accepted payment methods include cash, debit, Visa, Mastercard, and e-transfer. Payment is due at the time of service unless otherwise agreed in writing.
6.3 Insurance and Direct Billing
Lisa Rummel, RMT offers direct billing to select extended health insurance providers, including Alberta Blue Cross and Greenshield Canada. Where direct billing is not available, you are responsible for paying the full fee at the time of service and submitting receipts to your insurer for reimbursement. Coverage is determined by your insurance plan, and we cannot guarantee that any portion of the fee will be reimbursed.
6.4 Gift Certificates
Gift certificates do not expire, in accordance with Alberta’s Consumer Protection Act. Gift certificates are non-refundable and may not be redeemed for cash. Lost or stolen gift certificates will not be replaced.
7. Health Disclaimer and Treatment Suitability
Massage therapy is generally safe for most people. However, certain medical conditions may contraindicate treatment or require modification. You are responsible for disclosing all relevant health conditions, medications, allergies, and concerns on your intake form and updating us at every subsequent visit.
If you experience any unusual symptoms — including but not limited to persistent pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, or signs of an allergic reaction — please notify us immediately and consult your physician.
We are not responsible for outcomes resulting from undisclosed health conditions or from your failure to follow post-treatment recommendations.
BIOFLEX laser therapy, aromatherapy, and metaphysical therapy are complementary modalities and are not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment of medical conditions by a licensed physician.
8. Client Conduct
Our treatment space is a respectful, professional, and trauma-aware environment. Clients are expected to:
- Behave courteously toward Lisa Rummel and any other persons present;
- Provide accurate and complete health information;
- Practise reasonable personal hygiene before each session;
- Refrain from any inappropriate, harassing, or threatening behaviour.
We reserve the right to refuse, suspend, or terminate Services at our sole discretion, including in cases of inappropriate conduct, repeated late cancellations, or failure to pay fees.
9. Intellectual Property and Brand Mark
All content on the Website — including text, photographs, images, logos, graphics, and design — is owned by or licensed to Lisa Rummel, RMT and is protected by Canadian and international copyright law. You may view and print pages from the Website for personal, non-commercial use only. Any other reproduction, distribution, or commercial use requires our prior written permission.
The composite brand mark used by Lisa Rummel — consisting of the hand-painted enso (zen circle) containing the Japanese kanji 理沙 — is used as a distinctive visual identifier of her practice. The Japanese kanji characters themselves form part of the public Japanese writing system and are not claimed as exclusive property; the protected brand element is the composite enso-and-kanji design as a whole. The name “Lisa Rummel, RMT” is used in connection with her professional practice in Canmore, Alberta.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Website may contain links to third-party websites, including Jane App. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, products, services, or practices of third-party websites. Use of any third-party service is governed by that party’s own terms and privacy policies.
11. Disclaimers
The Website and its content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all representations and warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Website will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful code. You use the Website at your own risk.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall Lisa Rummel, RMT be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, loss of data, or loss of goodwill — arising from or in connection with your use of the Website or our Services. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the use of the Website is limited to the total fees paid by you for the Services in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded — including liability for fraud, gross negligence, or personal injury resulting from negligence.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Lisa Rummel, RMT and any affiliates, employees, or contractors from and against any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your violation of any law, or your infringement of any third-party right.
14. Privacy
Our collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy (Part 1 of this document), which forms part of these Terms by reference.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may amend these Terms from time to time. The current version will always be posted on the Website with an updated “Last Updated” date. By continuing to use the Website after a revision takes effect, you accept the revised Terms.
16. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Alberta. The courts of Alberta have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from or related to these Terms or the Services, except where prohibited by applicable law.
17. Severability and Entire Agreement
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. These Terms (together with the Privacy Policy) constitute the entire agreement between you and Lisa Rummel, RMT in relation to your use of the Website.
